Web Services allow users and information systems to communicate with each other and amongst themselves in ways that were not imaginable ten years ago.  The Web Services application demonstrates how one can update the database using a simple URL.  Developers can use this technology to automate payment processing, fetch a customer record, or start an automated process ( aka "job" ) on the database itself.
